A Twitter Plugin with Activity Feed Synchronization

What is a "Tweet"?

A Tweet is a status update which is sent to Twitter.

Which authentication methods does the twitter plugin offer?

There are two options: 1) Standard Authentication with Twitter Screenname and Password or 2) OAuth Authentication.
In the first case, the screenname and the password are saved locally in your database (in plain text). We recommend to use the second option: The twitter user clicks an authentication link and logs in at twitter.com. Twitter will then send a authorization token back to your site.

What are the advantages of the OAuth authentication?

With the OAuth authentication no passwords are saved in your database, you are able to use asynchronous CURL calls to connect to twitter and you can define your own tweet source.

Are there any other plugins required to run this Twitter plugin?

No, this plugin is a stand-alone plugin. You do not need any other plugins to run this plugin. Feel free to use our Twitter plugin in combination with our Widgets & Apps plugin. There are a lot of widgets available.

What happens if my site gets rate-limited by Twitter?

Twitter won't allow you to connect anymore. This happens if your site is sending to many requests. Our plugin is designed to cache all requests with intelligent caching mechanisms. This reduces the risk of being rate-limited and blocked by Twitter. For more information please read this article.

How can I register my community to use OAuth?

Please check SocialEngineBase for a tutorial or visit our video tutorial.

I registered my community on twitter.com but the tweet source is not displayed!

It seems as if Twitter is checking all application names (= tweet sources). Please wait at least 4 days and follow these steps afterwards:
- Switch back to the standard authentication and delete the OAuth keys from the form
- Copy the keys back to the form and activate the OAuth authentication again
- Be sure to clear the Twitter cache afterwards

If this does not help, please contact api@twitter.com.
